From Supportive Parent to 3rd-Degree Black Belt: My Jado Kuin Do Journey

How My Martial Arts Journey Began

Over 11 years ago, I joined Jado Kuin Do martial arts for one simple reason, to support my youngest daughter. She was 11 and at the beginning her martial arts journey. At first, I thought I’d simply watch from the sidelines. But that first class changed everything.

If I hadn’t been there to encourage her, she might have stopped after achieving her brown belt. Instead, she pushed through, achieved her 2nd-degree black belt, and developed resilience, discipline, and self-confidence. Watching her grow inspired me to step fully into my own journey.

Finding Support and Stress Relief Through Martial Arts

What I didn’t epect was the incredible support I’d receive from the Jado Kuin Do community. At the time, I was working in a highly stressful job, feeling drained and stretched thin. Training once a week, usually on a Thursday, became my sanctuary.

It wasn’t just about learning kicks and punches. It was about stress relief, releasing tension, and discovering a sense of balance. Each grading gave me a goal to work toward, and each class boosted my mental well-being.

From Beginner to Instructor

Fast forward 11 years, and I’m now a fully qualified Jado Kuin Do instructor, 3rd-degree black belt, DBS-checked, and committed to safeguarding. My journey continues to inspire me every day, and I still love walking into the training hall.

One of my greatest joys is seeing people of all ages and abilities succeed in martial arts. Whether you’re young or old, tall or short, flexible or stiff, fit or starting from scratch, Jado Kuin Do welcomes you.

You Don’t Need to Be Fit to Start

I used to think I had to be in peak fitness before trying martial arts. I wasn’t then, and I’m not now,  and that’s the beauty of it. Jado Kuin Do builds your fitness, mobility, and strength. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve noticed huge improvements in my joints, flexibility, and energy.

While my personal fitness goals are still a work in progress, I’m in far better shape than I would have been without training. Martial arts has truly been the key to staying active, motivated, and healthy.
